Samantha Hankey, Susan Bullock, Roland Wood & Sinéad Campbell-Wallace Lead Scottish Opera’s 2022-23 Season

The Scottish Opera has announced its 2022-23 season featuring new productions, pop operas, and opera in concert.

Opera

The season opens with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” starring Roland Wood, Jonathan McGovern, Zachary Altman, Hye-Youn Lee, Keel Watson, Pablo Bemsch, Shengzhi Ren, Kitty Whately, Lea Shaw, and Emyr Wyn Jones. Stuart Stratford conducts the production by Sir Thomas Allen.

Performance Dates: May 28-June 18, 2022

William Morgan, Ronald Samm, Dan Shelvey, Paula Sides, Lea Shaw, Susan Bullock, and Jamie MacDougall star in an outdoor production of Bernstein’s “Candide.” Stuart Stratford conducts and Jack Furness directs.

Golijov’s “Ainadamar” will make its U.K. premiere starring Lauren Fagan, Samantha Hankey, Julieth Lozano, Alfredo Tejada, John Savournin, Dan Shelvey, and Colin Murray. Stuart Stratford conducts the production by Deborah Colker.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29-Nov. 12, 2022

Puccini’s “Il Trittico” will be performed in a production by Sir David McVicar. “Il Tabarro” will star Roland Wood, Sinéad Campbell-Wallace, Viktor Antipenko, and Julian Close while “Suor Angelica” will star Sinéad Campbell-Wallace and Karen Cargill. Finally “Gianni Schicchi” will star Roland Wood, Francesca Chiejina, Louise Winter, Julian Close, and Elgan Llŷr Thomas. Stuart Stratford conducts.

Performance Dates: March 11-25, 2023

Justina Gringyte, Phillip Rhodes, and Hye-Youn Lee star will star in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Dane Lam conducting and John Fulljames directing.

Performance Dates: May 12-June 11, 2023

Opera in Concert 

Justina Gringyte, Shengzhi Ren, Dingle Yandell, Dan Shelvey, Colin Murray, and Andrew Henley star in Massenet’s “Therese” with Anu Tali conducting.

Performance Dates: Sept. 8 & 10, 2022

The Verdi Collection will be performed in concert.

Performance Dates: Nov. 19, 2022-Feb. 11, 2023

Summer of Opera

Gareth Williams and Johnny McKnight’s “Rubble” will be conducted by Chris Gray and directed by Roxana Haines. Shuna Scott Sendall stars.

Performance Date: May 31, 2022

Liam Paterson’s “Bambino” will be performed with Charlotte Hoather and Sam Plantcheff.

Performance Dates: August 13–Sept. 11, 2022

Pop-Opera will be performed.

Performance Dates: June 3 –July 10, 2022
