Salzburg Osterfestpiele Festival Cancels ‘Turandot’ Production; To Be Performed in Concert Format

By Francisco Salazar

The Salzburg Osterfestpiele Festival has announced that the upcoming production of “Turandot” has been replaced by a concert performance.

The change is due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and in a statement, the festival said, “it will be given in a  concert version on account of the size and complexity of the work (it requires more than 250 participants).”

The festival also announced that a new seating plan is being adapted and according to official specifications, will allow for 1,400 audience members to attend instead of the usual 2,200.

The opera is set to star Anna Netrebko in the title role, Yusif Eyvazov as Calaf, and Golda Schultz as Liù. Christian Thielemann conducts the performances set for March 27, 31, and April 4, 2021.
