Salzburg Festival Teams Up with Swarovski for Anna Netrebko’s ‘Tosca’ Costume

By Francisco Salazar

The Salzburg Festival is teaming up with Swarovski again for a revival production of “Tosca.”

The festival announced that for one of the three costumes that have been created for Anna Netrebko, the red concert dress was conceived as “restrained fireworks” featuring 40,000 Swarovski crystals in four different shades of red.

Costume Design Jan Meier noted that over the shining satin, there is a layer of black lace so that the skirt allows for ample movement.

The festival has previously worked with Swarovski on Netrebko’s dress for “Manon Lescaut” and for a gala performance in 2020. The jeweler also worked on a 2017 production of “Aida,” also starring Netrebko.

“Tosca” opens on August 21 and runs through the 31, 2021. The production will also star Yusif Eyvazov and Ludovic Tézier with Marco Amriliato conducting.
