Christian Blex has won the 2025 Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the Salzburg Festival.
The international jury, chaired by Manfred Honeck, selected Blex to take home the 15,000 € prize. Blex will also be conducting a Festival concert with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna. This concert will be recorded and released on CD as part of the series Salzburg Festival Documents.
Blex, Jakub Przybycień, and Jong-Jie Yin were the top three finalists out of nearly 300 candidates. During the 2025 YCA Award Concert Weekend, each finalist conducted the Camerata Salzburg alongside participants of the Young Singers Project in a concert featuring a program of their choosing. The concert took place in the Main Auditorium of the Mozarteum Foundation.
Blex said in a press release, “Having won the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award is an incredible privilege and a great joy. Being able to conduct a concert at the Salzburg Festival is a great dream coming true. I thank the Camerata Salzburg and Christopher Humbert Jr. from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful collaboration.”
The competition is held every two years. Past winners of the Young Conductors Award include Hankyeol Yoon, Joel Sandelson, Gábor Káli, Kerem Hasan, and many more.
