Salzburg Festival Extends President’s Contract

By David Salazar

The Salzburg Festival has announced that it will be extending the contract of president Helga Rabl-Stadler for an additional year.

Per the Wiener Zeitung, the festival’s board voted unanimously on this decision.

“I was determined to end my work for the Salzburg Festival after this anniversary on December 31, 2020,” Rabl-Stadler said. “But the positive response from Salzburgers and our audience around the world to our decision to Making festivals in difficult times, as well as the great trust of the board of trustees and the request of our director not to let him down in the middle of the anniversary, prompted me to change my mind and Markus Hinterhäuser’s until the end of the anniversary on August 31, 2021.”

The decision comes after the festival recently announced plans to showcase a modified festival between August 1-30 after the COVID-19 crisis forced the organization to cancel its original plans. Per a previous report, the Salzburg Festival will hold its centennial celebration in 2021 and the new contract extension ensures that Rabl-Stadler will remain onboard through those festivities.
