The Salzburg Festival has announced that Markus Hinterhäuser will remain the company’s Artistic Director.

In a statement the festival said, that the Board of Trustees of the Salzburg Festival made an important decision for the organization’s future and extended the contract of Artistic Director Markus Hinterhäuser for five years. As a result, he will remain in his position until 2031.

Hinterhäuser’s current contract runs until September 2026 and the Artistic Director has repeatedly been celebrated by audiences and critics worldwide for his extraordinary artistic successes, even under the most difficult conditions, such as during the Covid pandemic.

The Whitsun Festival is set to run between May 17 and 21 while the summer festival is set to run between July 19 and August 31 2024.
