Salzburg Festival Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Salzburg Festival has announced that a temp worker has tested positive for COVID-19.

The festival said that the employee had begun working on June 18, 2020, and initially tested negative. According to the kurier, the woman has only shown mild symptoms.

The festival also stated that five people who were in direct contact with the employee have all tested negative as of Wednesday, July 8, 2020. According to the press release, the festival is following all regulations in order to secure the health of its workers and will not delay the opening night performance.

The Salzburg Festival is set to open on August 1 and run through August 30, 2020 in a reduced edition. The festival will present productions of “Cosi fan tutte” and “Elektra.” It will also present concerts with Anna Netrebko, Sonya Yoncheva, Cecilia Bartoli, and Juan Diego Flórez, among others.
