Salzburg Festival Announces Lineup for 2023 Youth Program ‘jung & jede*r’

The Salzburg Festival has announced the lineup for their 2023 youth program, “jung & jede*r”.

Running from March 24 to August 28, 2023, the program will feature 53 performances for children and teenagers across 20 venues. Among the highlights are the following:

Maurice Ravel’s “Das Kind und die Zauberdinge (L’Enfant et les sortilèges)”

This new production will be held at the Schauspielhaus Salzburg, Saal, and is conducted by Anna Handler with direction by Giulia Giammona. The performances will feature Johanna Rosa Falkinger as The Child, along with Aitana Sanz Perez, Lilit Davtayan, Anita Monserrat, Liza Lozica, Anthony Leon, Matteo Guerze, and Pawel Horodyski. Performances of this production will be preceded by the “Let’s play Opera” introductory workshop.

Performance Dates: July 28, 30, August 2, 5, 9, 12, 15, 19, 23, and 27.

Mischa Tangian’s “Ping Pong”

This new work, commissioned by the Salzburg Festival, will receive its world premiere. With libretto by Stephanie Schiller, direction by Annika Haller, and musical preparation by Giorgio Musolesi, the cast features Sophie Negolita opposite Mate Herczeg, along with Sophie Oberleitner, Greta Franzelin, and Augustas Bure.

Performance Dates: July 20, 29, August 6, 11, and 18.

Gwendoline Soublin’s “Fiesta”

The German-language premiere of this work will be directed by Joachim Gottfried Goller, with sets and costumes by Jenny Schleif and dramaturgy by Armela Madreiter.

Performance Dates: July 23, 27, August 4, 13, and 20.

The Salzburg Festival Youth Program will also include four opera camps for children aged 9 to 17, which will see them spend a week at Arenberg Castle with industry professionals. They will engage with material from numerous operas and present their own interpretations assisted by members of the Vienna Philharmonic.
