Salzburg Festival Announces Conductor Change for ‘Macbeth’
By Francisco SalazarThe Salzburg Festival has announced a conductor change for its production of Verdi’s “Macbeth.”
In a press release the festival said, “With great regret, Franz Welser-Most must withdraw from conducting Macbeth due to acute orthopedic issues which require him to undergo medical treatment. However, he remains confident that he will be able to conduct his concerts at the Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic on 20 and 21 August.
As a result, Philippe Jordan will step into the production which is set to be directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski.
Jordan is the music director of the Vienna State Opera since September 2020 and recently conducted the Verdi Opera 2020. He was previously music director of the Opéra National de Paris for twelve years and chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
“Macbeth” is set to star Vladislav Sulimsky, Tareq Nazmi, Asmik Grigorian, and Jonathan Tetelman. The opera runs from July 29 through August 24, 2023.
