The Salzburg Festival has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Verdi’s “Aida.”

The company noted that Anita Rachvelishvili has canceled her participation in the role of Amneris and will be replaced by Ève-Maud Hubeaux.

Hubeaux is a well-known mezzo-soprano who has performed at the Baden-Baden Festival, Paris Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Berliner Staatsoper, Savonlinna Festival, Theater Basel, and Opéra de Toulon, among others.

The mezzo joins a cast that includes Roberto Tagliavini, Elena Stikhina, Piotr Beczala, Erwin Schrott, Luca Salsi, and Riccardo Della Sciucca.

Alain Altinoglu conducts the production by Shirin Neshat. “Aida” is set open on August 12 and run through August 30, 2022.

Rachvelishvili is scheduled to return to the stage this fall for a new production of “Samson et Dalila” at the Teatro San Carlo.
