The Salzburg Easter Festival will broadcast a recording of Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda” on Oe1.

The recording from opening night on March 23, will be broadcast on April 6, 2024, at 7:30 pm.

The recording will feature Anna Netrebko in the title role of La Gioconda, Jonas Kaufmann as Enzo Grimaldo, Tareq Nazmi as Alvise Badoero, Eve-Maud Hubeaux as Laura, Luca Salsi as Barnaba, and Agnieszka Rehlis as La Cieca. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the chorus and orchestra Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

“La Gioconda” was performed three times during the festival and received rave reviews with critics stating that Netrebko, “has darkened even more in its imperious lower register, making Gioconda’s ‘Suicidio!’ particularly compelling. She can still spin golden top notes and fully entered into the drama.” The Times UK also added, “Netrebko and Pappano pack a punch at Salzburg.”
