Salvatore Sciarrino Concert to be Performed in Prague

By Francisco Salazar

On Nov. 21, the DOX + venue in Prague will host a concert of the essential works of Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino.

The concert will showcase performers of contemporary classical music who are closely connected with the composer, including baritone Otto Katzemeier, violinist Hana Kotková, and mezzo-soprano Anna Radziejewska.

Among the pieces that will be performed by Sciarrino are “Quaderno di strada” (2003), “Allegoria della notte” (1985), “Efebo con radio” (1981), and “Il silenzio degli oracoli” (1989).

The concert will also take a moment at its conclusion to celebrate composer Luigi Nono’s 100th birthday with a performance of “Quartetto Prometeo” from Milan.

Ostravská banda, reinforced by the members of ONO – Ostrava New Orchestra, will be conducted by composer Petr Kotík.

Katzemeier is a bass-baritone who has devoted his career to Sciarrino’s works and has been closely associated with the author for over a quarter of a century.  Meanwhile, mezzo-soprano Radziejewska is one of the leading “muses” of Sciarrino’s works.
