By Francisco Salazar

On May 21, 2025, Salon Sanctuary will present “Paradise Toss’d: Heavnly Queens, Earthly Crowns, and the Smoldering Embers of Rule.”

The concert will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and will feature soprano Jessica Gould alongside instrumentalists Gonzalo Ruiz, Alexandra Calabro, Claire Smith, Christopher Morrongiello, Jason Priset, Adam Young, and Robert Warner.

The concert will include music by Händel, Kapsberger, Monteverdi, Piccini, Rigatti, Rossi, Stradella, and Strozzi.

The concert is designed as “Heaven and Earth go back to back as two Marian Anthems frame a trio of tortured queens. Arias of Stradella’s conflicted Ester, Monteverdi’s dejected Ottavia, and Handel’s scheming Agrippina trace an arc from doubt to misery to bloodthirsty desperation, as two prayers to the Queen of Heaven flip from calm to turbulence on either side.”
