Belgian opera house La Monnaie has announced that it will stream a production of Bellini’s “Norma” on its website starting Jan. 11, 2022. The stream will be available until Feb. 22, 2022.

The opera stars Enea Scala in the role of Pollione, Michele Pertusi as Oroveso, Raffaella Lupinacci as Adalgisa, and Sally Matthews in the title role. The cast also includes Cristina Melis as Clotilde, and Loïc Félix as Flavio. Sesto Quatrini conducts a production by Christophe Coppens.

La Monnaie was forced to cancel the final three performances of “Norma” following a decision of the Belgian government on Dec. 23, 2021 to shut down cultural venues due to soaring number of Omicron COVID-19 infections. The Council of State voted on Dec. 28, 2021 to suspend a government-ordered closure of the cultural sector, saying that the decision was unreasonable. However, the company was not able to present the final three performances anymore due to the artistic and technical reasons.

La Monnaie is currently devising plans about its performances in January 2022.
