Saioa Hernández, Gregory Kunde & Joyce El-Khoury Headline Seattle Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Seattle Opera has announces its  2020-21 season featuring an all-star lineup and some ambitious productions. Here is a look:

The season opens with the double bill of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” with Gregory Kunde headlining both productions in a rare U.S. appearance. He will share the run with Arsen Soghomonyan. Melody Moore and Marcy Stonikas will share the role of Santuzza in Mascagni’s masterpiece while Vanessa Goikoetxea and Joyce El-Khoury will share the role of Nedda in Leoncavallo’s opera. Michael Mayes sings both Alfio and Tonio. The cast is rounded out by Will Liverman, Sarah Larsen, and Tichina Vaughn with Oksana Lyniv conducting the production by Guy Montavon.

Performance Dates: August 8-22, 2020

Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’ Amore” returns to the stage with Madison Leonard and Vuvu Mpofu as Adina, Liparit Avetisyan and Matthew Grills as Nemorino, and Péter Kálmán and Patrick Carfizzi as Dulcamara. Michael Adams rounds out the cast as Belcore with Carlo Montanaro conducting,

Performance Dates: Oct. 17-31, 2020

Angela Meade and Jamie Barton reunite for a concert. The two divas perform alongside John Keene on piano.

Performance Date: Oct.23, 2020

Daniel Okulitch and Jared Bybee sing the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with a cast that includes Vanessa Goikoetxea, Laura Wilde Keri Alkema, Helena Dix, Michael Sumuel, Miles Mykkanen, Jasmine Habersheim, and William Thomas. Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts the production by Brenna Corner.

Performance Dates: Jan. 26-30, 2021

David DQ Lee, Randall Scotting, Karen Vuong, Joshua Kohl, Mark Diamond Steward, Renee Rapier, and Damien Geter star in Jonathan Dove’s “Flight.” Viswa Sunnaraman conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 27-March 13, 2021

Saioa Hernández and Karine Babajanyan make their company debuts in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Marco Berti, Robert Watson, Lucio Gallo and Michael Chioldi. Kazem Abdullah conducts.

Performance Dates: May 8-23, 2021
