Saioa Hernández, Angel Blue & Angela Gheorghiu Lead Semperoper Fall 2020 Performances

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a revised program for November and December 2020. The opera house will present three new productions, Mozart’s singspiel “Die Zauberflöte,” Udo Zimmermann’s “Weiße Rose,” and Simone Fontanelli’s “Pinocchio.”

Here is the look.

Mozart’s singspiel “Die Zauberflöte” will star René Pape, Nikola Hillebrand, Tuuli Takala, Sebastian Kohlhepp, Sebastian Wartig, Ute Selbig, Stepanka Pucalkova, Christa Mayer, Simeon Esper, Markus Marquardt, Katerina von Bennigsen, Mateusz Hoedt, Gerald Hupach, Jürgen Müller, and Matthias Henneberg.

Omer Meir Wellber will conduct a production by Josef Ernst Köpplinger.

Performance Dates: Nov. 1, 2020 – Dec. 22, 2020

A reduced version of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” will feature Daniel Umbelino, Marco Filippo Romano, Marianne Crebassa, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Doğukan Kuran, Roxana Incontrera, Volker Zack, and  Christoph Pohl in the title role.

Ottavio Dantone conducts a production by Angela Brandt and Alexander Brendel.

Performance date: Nov. 3, 2020

A reduced version of Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” will spotlight Erdal Yildiz, Nikola Hillebrand, Katerina von Bennigsen, Matthew Newlin, Manuel Günther, and Tobias Kehrer.

Alessandro De Marchi conducts a production by Gunda Mapache.

Performance date: Nov. 6, 2020

An adapted version of Puccini’s “Tosca” will feature Najmiddin Mavlyanov, Alexey Markov, Lawson Anderson, Matthias Henneberg, Aaron Pegram, Tilmann Rönnebeck, and Mateusz Hoedt. The soprano for the title role is yet to be announced.

Omer Meir Wellber conducts a production by Heike Maria Jenor.

Performance dates: Nov. 8, 2020

A semi-staged performance of musical highlights from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will showcase Georg Zeppenfeld, Elena Gorshunova, Liparit Avetisyan, Elena Guseva, Lawson Anderson, Martin-Jan Nijhof, Anke Vondung, and Andrzej Filończyk in the title role.

Performance date: Nov. 12, 2020

Puccini’s “Tosca” will star Angela Gheorghiu and Angel Blue alternating in the title role, Dmytro Popov and Riccardo Massi alternating as Mario Cavaradossi, and Andrzej Dobber and Alexey Markov alternating as Scarpia. The cast also includes Martin-Jan Nijhof, Matthias Henneberg, Aaron Pegram, Tilmann Rönnebeck, and Mateusz Hoedt.

Stefano Ranzani and Omer Meir Wellber will conduct a production by Johannes Schaaf.

Performance dates: Nov. 20 – Dec. 11, 2020.

A Concert performance of Verdi’s opera “Attila” will star Saioa Hernández, Andrzej Dobber, Georg Zeppenfeld, Tomislav Mužek, and Tilmann Rönnebeck. Jordi Bernàcer will conduct.

Performance date: December 5, 2020

The one-act chamber opera “Weiße Rose” by Udo Zimmerman will feature Franz Xaver Schlecht and Elisabeth Dopheide. Johannes Wulff-Woesten will conduct the production by Stephan Grögler.

Performance dates: Dec. 5 – Dec. 13, 2020

Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” will feature Stepanka Pucalkova, Nikola Hillebrand, Matthias Henneberg, Christa Mayer, Iris Vermillion, and Julia Muzychenko. Srba Dinić will conduct a production by Katharina Thalbach.
