Saimir Pirgu, Anna Pirozzi & Roberta Mantegna Highlight Teatro Dell’Opera Di Roma’s 2019-20 Season

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced its 2019-20 season featuring numerous new productions and two special concerts.

Daniele Gatti conducts a new production of Verdi’s “Les Vêpres Siciliennes” by Valentina Carrasco. The production stars Roberto Frontali, John Osborn, Michele Pertusi, and Roberta Mantegna.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10-22, 2019

Lyudmila Monastyrska and Monica Zanettin share the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Giorgio Berrugi and Diego Cavazzin alternating as Cavaradossi. Claudio Sgura rounds out the cast as Scarpia and Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 12-21, 2019

Bellini’s “I Capuleti e Montecchi” gets a new production by Denis Krief starring Anna Goryachova and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Romeo and Mariangela Sicilia and Benedetta Torre as Giuletta. The cast is rounded out by Iván Ayón Rivas, Giulio Pelligra, Nicola Ulivieri, and Alessio Cacciamani. Daniele Gatti conducts.

Maria Baiankina, Yulia Matochkina, Markus Werba, Saimir Pirgu, and John Relyea star in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.” James Conlon conducts Robert Carsen’s famed production new to Rome.

Performance Dates: Feb. 18-29, 2020

Alejo Pérez conducts a new production of Puccini’s “Turandot.” Ai Weiwei directs the production with Anna Pirozzi and Amber Wagner sharing the title role, Gregory Kunde and Arsen Soghomonyan as Calaf, Antonio di Matteo, and Marco Spotti as Timur and Francesca Dotto as Liu.

Performance Dates: March 25-April 5, 2020

David Robertson conducts Richard Jones’ acclaimed production of Janáček’s “Kát’a Kabanová.” The cast is set to include Stephen Richardson, Charles Workman, Susan Bickley, Andrew Staples, Amanda Majeski, and Cristopher Lemmings.

Performance Dates: April 19-28, 2020

Roberta Mantegna sings the title role of Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” with Riccardo Zanellato, Piero Pretti, Daniela Barcellona, Marco Spotti, and Enkhbat Amartuvshin. Roberto Abbado conducts.

Performance Dates: May 22-31, 2020

Emilio Sagi directs a new production of Bizet’s “Carmen” with Veronica Simeoni, Ksenia Dudnikova, and Irene Roberts singing the title role. Pavel Černoch and Migran Agadzhanyan alternate as Don José, Vitaliy Bilyy and Andrii Ganchuk perform Escamillo and Maria Grazia Schiavo is Michaela. Bertrand de Billy conducts.

Daniele Gatti conducts Graham Vick’s production of Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress” with Stephen Richardson, Chen Reiss, Juan Francisco Gatell, Markus Werba, Susan Bickley, Adriana di Paola, and Paul Nilon.

Performance Dates: Oct. 18-29, 2020

Zuzana Markova, Albina Shagimuratova, and Claudia Pavone share the title role of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Sergey Romanovsky, Iván Ayón Rivas, and Alessandro Scotto Di Luzio alternating Alfredo and Marco Caria and Simone Del Savio sharing the role of Germont. Paolo Arrivabeni conducts.

Myung-whun Chung conducts Verdi’s Requiem with Carmen Giannattasio, Daniela Barcellona, Saimir Pirgu, and Roberto Tagliavini.
