Sabine Devieilhe, Alex Penda & Simon O’Neill Lead Opera De Massy’s 2019-20 Season

The Opera de Massy has announced its 2019-20 season featuring seven opera productions and a number of high profile recitals and concerts. Here is a look at what to expect.

Opera

Andre Heyboer and Alex Penda headline Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Dario Russo and Luciano Acocella conducting the production by Jean-Louis Martinoty.

Performance Dates: Nov. 8 & 10, 2019

Handel’s “Acis and Galatea” gets a production by Julien Chavaz starring Alexander Sprague, Marie Lys, Christian Immler, Jennifer Pellagaud, and Germain Bardot. Frederique Chauvet conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 23 & 24, 2019

Jerome Savary directs a production of Offenbach’s “La Vie Parisienne” with Remy Mathieu, Carl Ghazarossian, Irina Stopina,  Capucine Daumas, and Scott Emerson. Claud Schnitzler conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 18 & 19, 2020  

Clapisson’s “Le Code Noir” will get a production by Jean-Pierre Baro. The production will be conducted by Jerome Correas and will star Marie-Clause Bottius, Isabelle Savigny, Luanda Siquiera, Martial Pauliat, Jean-Loup Pagesy, and Nicolas Rigas.

Performance Date: Jan. 31, 2020

Constantin Rouits conducts Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with soloists from the Compagnie Lyrique Opera 2001.

Performance Dates: Feb 27-March 1, 2020 

Isouard’s “Cendrillon” is set to star Anais Constans, Jeanne Crousaud, Louise Pingeot, Sahy Ratia, and Jérôme Bouttillier. Julien Chauvin conducts Marc Paquien’s production.

Performance Dates: April 25 & 26, 2020

Ahlima Mhamdi sings Bizet’s “Carmen” with Thomas Bettinger as Don Jose and Christian Helmer as Escamillo. Ludivine Gombert rounds of the cast as Michaëla with Dominique Rouits conducting.

Performance Dates: May 15 & 17, 2020

Recital 

Michelle DeYoung and Simon O’Neill perform excerpts from “Tristan und Isolde,” ‘Parsifal,” and “Die Walkure” under the direction of Case Scaglione.

Performance Date: Oct. 15, 2019

Karine Deshayes performs a program of Offenbach arias alongside conductor Frederique Chauvet.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2019

Sabine Devieilhe, Siobhan Stagg, Stephanie d’Oustrac, Linard Vrielink, John Chest and Nahuel di Pierro perform a concert entitled “Liberta” with Raphael Pichon conducting.

Performance Date: Dec. 21, 2019

Jean-Francois Lombard and Makeda Monnet perform a joint recital.

Performance Date: Jan. 28, 2020

Marie Perbost, Jean-Francois Marras, and Thibault de Damas perform Beethoven’s Mass with Constantin Rouits conducting. The concert also includes Beethoven’s seventh symphony.

Performance Date: Feb. 2, 2020

Magali Leger and Irina de Baghy star in a program of song from “West Side Story,” “Porgy and Bess,” “My Fair Lady” and “Singin in the Rain,” among others.

Performance Date: April 1, 2020
