The Royal Swedish Opera will present a new premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s “Prima Donna” on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. Later that evening, the company will host a concert featuring the singer-songwriter at 8:30 p.m.

Originally premiered in 2009 in Manchester, followed by performances in London, New York, and Toronto, “Prima Donna” is set to star soprano Elin Rombo in the role of Régine Saint Laurent. She is joined by Jeremy Carpenter as Philippe, Pauline Texier as Marie, and Conny Thimander as André.

In the opera, Régine is preparing for a return to performance after a hiatus of six years. During an interview with a mysterious journalist, she finds the inspiration to make her intended comeback.

Fredrik Burstedt conducts the Royal Court Chapel, and  Mårten Forslund directs the work.

During his first-ever concert at the Royal Swedish Opera, Wainwright will perform at the piano and guitar.
