Royal Opera House Muscat to Present ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

By David Salazar

The Royal Opera House Muscat is set to present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Feb. 9 and 10, 2024.

The showcases will be directed by Laurence Dale and feature Sydney Mancasola as Titania, Christopher Ainslie as Oberon, Matteo Anselmi as Puck, Scott Wilde as Theseus, Kamelia Kader as Hippolyta and Peter Kirk as Lysander.

Donato Renzetti conducts the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova.

“After a successful season in Genova, I am proud to be in Oman for this enchanting performance,” Dale told OperaWire. “The Royal Opera House Muscat initiated this production, and it is fitting that we are now introducing it to the local audience. I was personally inspired by the legendary theatre director Peter Brook’s work with Britten, along with the Libretto from Peter Pears. I envisioned this Opera as enchanting and hypnotic, captivating audiences into Shakespeare’s classic tale. This is all made possible by the talent of our choreographer, Carmine De Amicis, our lighting director, John Bishop, and the famous costume designer, Gary McCann. The whole décor is beautifully composed with rich colours and ravishing costumes inspired by modern British designers such as McQueen or Westwood. I am deeply grateful to the Royal Opera House Muscat and the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genoa for initiating this collaboration and making this performance possible. A special thanks to the talented technical crew at ROHM, whose expertise has enabled the décor to come to life, befitting of excellence.”

To accompany the performance, the Royal Opera House Muscat will transform its outdoor space into a forest, allowing audience members to prepare for the night ahead.

The performance is expected to have a duration of 190 minutes, including two 20-minute intermissions.

Later this season, the Royal Opera House Muscat will present “La Bohème.”
