Royal Opera House & English National Opera Lead Olivier Award Nominations

The Olivier Awards have announced their annual nominations.

For the purpose of this article, we will only focus on the opera categories.

In the category of Best New Opera Production the Royal Opera House received two nominations for its productions of “Kat’ya Kabanova” and “Lessons of Love and Violence.” Also nominated in the category was  “The Turn of the Screw” from Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Andris Nelsons led the way as he was nominated for the Outstanding Achievement in Opera category for his conducting at the Royal Opera’s production of “Lohengrin.” He is nominated alongside the ensemble of “Porgy and Bess” from the English National Opera, David Butt Philip and Roderick Williams for War Requiem at the London Coliseum and The English National Opera Chorus for “Paul Bunyan.”

The Olivier Award is the most prestigious award for theater and is the equivalent of the Tony Award in the United States.

The ceremony will be held on April 7, 2019 at the Royal Albert Hall.
