Royal Opera House Bans Man for Heckling Young Performer During ‘Alcina’

By Francisco Salazar

The Royal Opera House announced it will ban an audience member who booed during the opening night of “Alcina.”

The company released a statement on social media stating, “Unfortunately, the opening night of ‘Alcina’ featured an audience member who disrupted the show and the excellent performance by young singer Malakai M Bayoh. We are appalled that a member of the audience behaved in this way and steps have been taken to ensure the audience member in question does not return to the Royal Opera House.”

According to reports, the 12-year-old singer was heckled during his aria and a man shouted “rubbish!”

Audience members reacted on Twitter by condemning the heckler’s actions.

Bayoh is a pupil at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School and previously appeared at the ROH in The Magic Flute.
