Royal Opera House Announces Several Cast Changes for ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ & ‘Pagliacci’

The Royal Opera House has announced several cast changes for its production of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci.”

The company noted that Ermonela Jaho has withdrawn from all performances of “Pagliacci” due to illness and as a result, the role of Nedda will now be performed by Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak who will also sing the role of Santuzza in “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

The company also added, that Jonas Kaufmann is still recovering from COVID-19 and is unable to sing the performance of “Cavalleria Rusticana” on July 8. As a result, he will be replaced by SeokJong Baek as Turiddu in addition to singing the role on July 5.

Additionally, Italian tenor Fabio Sartori has withdrawn from the “Pagliacci” performances on July 5 and 8, due to COVID-19. As a result,  Roberto Alagna will sing the role of Canio on those dates.

All performances are still set to be conducted by ROH Music Director Antonio Pappano.
