Royal Opera House Announces New Tenor For Upcoming ‘Carmen’

The Royal Opera House has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Carmen.”

Tenor Arsen Soghomonyan has withdrawn from the role of Don José on July 16 and 20 and will be replaced by Arnold Rutkowski in his Royal Opera debut. Per a press release, Soghomonyan has withdrawn due to personal reasons.

Rutkowski has sung with such companies as the Hamburg State Opera, Stuttgart State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Paris Opéra, Opéra de Lyon, Royal Swedish Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Polish National Opera, Finnish National Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre, Vilnius City Opera, Greek National Opera and Opera Australia

The remaining cast members for those two performances include Anaïk Morel in the title role, Ailyn Pérez as Michaëla, and Phillip Rhodes as Escamillo.
