Royal Opera House Announces Major Cast Change for ‘Fidelio’

The Royal Opera House has announced cast changes for its upcoming performances of “Fidelio.”

For the performance on March 3, 2020, Baritone Simon Neal has withdrawn from the role of Don Pizarro.

In a press release, the company noted at the British artist was indisposed and was replaced by German baritone Michael Kupfer-Radecky as Don Pizarro. Kupfer-Radecky is making his Royal Opera debut in the performance.

Meanwhile, for subsequent performances thorugh March 17, 2020, Timothy Dawkins has replaced ByeongMin Gil as the Second Prisoner.

Kupfer-Radecky has taken on the role of Pizarro with such companies as the New National Theatre Tokyo and Bayerische Staatsoper. He has also performed with such organizations as Opera Australia, the Opéra National de Paris, the Teatro alla Scala, the NCPA Beijing, the Marrinsky Theatre, and the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, among others.

Kupfer-Radeky and Dawkins joins a cast that includes Lise Davidsen, Jonas Kaufmann, George Zeppenfeld, and Amanda Forsythe. Antonio Pappano conducts.
