The Royal Opera House has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Rigoletto.”

In the role of Sparafucile, Brindley Sherratt will replace Andrea Mastroni in all September performances.

The British bass made his Royal Opera debut in 2001 as in “L’anima del filosofo” and has since performed in the company’s “Die Zauberflöte,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Rigoletto,” “Aida,” “Les Troyens,” “Norma,” “Turandot,” The Ring Cycle, “Billy Budd,” and “Don Giovanni.”

Sherratt joins a cast that includes Lisette Oropesa, Carlos Álvarez, and  Ramona Zaharia. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the new production by Oliver Mears.

The production opens on Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 29, 2021. “Rigoletto” will return in February with a new cast that will include Luca Salsi, Rosa Feola, and Javier Camarena.
