The Royal Opera House has announced a cast change for its production of “Elektra” on Jan. 15, 2024.

The company said, “Sadly, Nina Stemme has withdrawn from singing the role of Elektra in this evening’s performance due to illness. The role of Elektra will be performed by Ausrine Stundyte who makes her highly anticipated Covent Garden debut.”

Stundyte is a well-known interpreter of Elektra as she has performed it at the Salzburg Festival, Staatsoper Hamburg, Antwerp, and recently at the Wiener Staatsoper. OperaWire praised her interpretation noting she was “vulnerable” in the title role.

The soprano is set to join a cast that includes Sara Jakubiak, Karita Mattila, Łukasz Goliński, and Charles Workman. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the production by Christof Loy.
