The Royal Opera House has announced a major cast change for its upcoming production of “Don Giovanni.”

Baritone Christopher Maltman has withdrawn from the performances on July 16 and 18, 2021 due to ongoing quarantine regulations that conflict with his scheduled performances in Rome and Salzburg.

In his stead, audiences will hear bass Riccardo Fassi in the title role. Fassi will be making his debut with the Royal Opera House in this production and is already set to appear in the organizations’ 2021-22 performances of “Le Nozze di Figaro;” he will take on the title role in that Mozart work.

Fassi has performed with such companies as Wiener Staatsoper, the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Torino, and the Arena di Verona.

Fassi will join a cast that includes Paolo Bordogna, Vanessa Goikoetxea, Adele Zaharia, Frédéric Antoun, and Nicole Chevalier. The opera will be conducted by Constantin Trinks.
