Royal Opera House Announces Cast Change For ‘Death In Venice’

The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has announced a cast change for its Nov. 30, 2019 performance of Britten’s “Death in Venice.”

The company announced that Randall Scotting will sing the role Voice of Apollo replacing Tim Mead.

Scotting stepped in to sing the performance on Nov. 26 making his Royal Opera debut. The countertenor has performed at the Seattle Opera, Minnesota Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Carolina, Opera Colorado, Göttingen Handel Festival, New York City Opera, and Fort Worth Opera. This season he is set to sing with Opera Omaha in “St. John the Baptist” and West Edge Opera.

Scotting joins a cast that includes Mark Padmore and Gerald Finley. The production is set to be conducted by Richard Farnes and directed by Sir. David McVicar.

Mead returns to the production on Dec. 3 and 6, 2019.
