Royal Opera House Announces Cast Change for ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’

The Royal Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

The company noted that Aleksandra Kurzak will replace Anita Rachvelishvili in the role of Santuzza. 

Kurzak has performed the role of Santuzza at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and the Arena di Verona. The soprano made her Royal Opera debut in 2005 as Aspasia in “Mitridate, re di Ponto” and has since sung Norina in “Don Pasquale,” Adina in “L’elisir d’amore,” Susanna in “Le nozze di Figaro,” Matilde in “Matilde di Shabran,” Fiorilla in “Il turco in Italia,” Rosina in “Il barbiere di Siviglia,” Gilda in “Rigoletto,” Lucia di Lammermoor and Liù in “Turandot.”

She joins a cast that includes Jonas Kaufmann Dimitri Platanias, Aigul Akhmetshina, and Elena Zilio. The opera will be performed with “Pagliacci,” which will also star Kaufmann, Platanias, and Ermonela Jaho. Antonio Pappano conducts the double bill which opens on July 5, 2022.
