The Royal Opera has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Aida.”
The company said that Angel Blue has withdrawn from the last three performances of “Aida” due to a family illness. As a result, Christina Nilsson will perform the title role on May 23, 27, and 1, making her house debut in Robert Carsen’s production, conducted by Mark Elder.
The Swedish soprano made her role debut as Aida at the Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm during the 2017-18 Season and has since performed the role at Semperoper Dresden and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Nilsson has also performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Oper Frankfurt, Tyrolean Festspiele Erl, Austria, Theater Dortmund, and Opéra de Lyon.
She joins a cast that includes Francesco Meli, Elīna Garanča, Olesya Petrova, Dimitri Platanias, and Soloman Howard.
Blue will return to the Royal Opera House next season for “Tosca.”
