Royal Opera Announces Two Cast Changes For ‘La Traviata’

The Royal Opera House has announced two cast changes for the Jan. 6, 2020 performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company announced that George Gagnidze will replace Simon Keenlyside in the role of Germont and will make his Royal Opera House debut. Meanwhile, Dinara Alieva will sing the title role replacing Hrachuhi Bassenz, also making her house debut.

Gagnidze recently sang the role of Germont at the Paris Opera during the 2018-19 season as well as  atthe Teatro alla Scala and the Arena di Verona. This season he is scheduled to perform at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli and the Metropolitan Opera.

Alieva was scheduled to make her Royal Opera debut this season on Jan. 22 in “La Traviata.” She has performed the role of Violetta to great acclaim at the Bolshoi Theatre and Staatsoper Hamburg. This season she is set to perform at the Teatro Regio di Torino, Wiener Staatsoper, and Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
