Royal College of Music Opera Studio To Showcase Haydn Opera

The Royal College of Music Opera Studio will present “Il Mondo della Luna” on Nov. 25-30, 2019.

The showcase of Haydn’s opera, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing will be conducted by Michael Rosewell with William Relton directing the production. Kevin Treacy will be lighting designer while Ruari Murchison will design the production.

Relton began his career as an actor and performed such operatic roles as Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni,” Basilio in “Le Nozze di Figaro” and Ferrando in “Così fan tutte.”His directing debut came in Verdi’s “Otello” for the Opéra de Nice. He also wrote the libretto for B Tommy Andersson’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” which premiered at the Vadstena Festival in Sweden.

The presentation will feature two casts alternating the leading roles of the work. There will be a total of four performances on Nov. 25, 27, 29, and 30.
