Several prominent international musicians have joined Royal College of Music in the professorial roles, according to the official statement on RCM’s website.

The new Head of Conducting will be Toby Purser. Purser was an ENO Mackerras Conducting Fellow 2016-18 and is the Musical Director of the Vienna Opera Festival and Academy, where he mentors young singers and conductors. The conductor was appointed Musical Director of New Sussex Opera in 2018 and has also worked with Grange Park Opera, Lyric Opera Ireland, and Opéra National de Paris, among others.

Composer Dimitri Scarlato joined the College as Area Leader in Composition for Screen. Scarlato is an active film composer whose credits include “City in the Sky” directed by Giacomo Cimini. His two operas, “Fadwa” and “La tregua di Natale,” have been fully produced and staged by the Accademia Filarmonica Romana and Nuova Consonanza in Rome.

Tynan has recently performed the role of Eurydice in Glass’ opera “Orphée” at the English National Opera, the role of Pat Nixon in Adams’ opera “Nixon in China” at the Royal Danish Opera, and the title role in Donizetti’s opera “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the English National Opera, among others. Tynan was also awarded the Welsh Theatre Award for Best Female in an Opera Production for her portrayal of Manon Lescaut in Henze’s “Boulevard Solitude” at the Welsh National Opera in 2015.

Other recent appointments include Ilya Kondratiev, Mengyang Pan, Caterina Grewe and Dinara Klinton in the Keyboard Faculty; violinist Alexander Gilman as Visiting Professor in the Strings Faculty; bassoonists Emily Hultmark and Roberto Giaccaglia in the Woodwind Faculty; and double bass and violone player Carina Cosgrave in Historical Performance.
