The Royal Ballet & Opera is set to collaborate with British designer Paul Smith this Christmas.

The commercial partnership is designed to be both “financially impactful and artistically meaningful.” The alliance will see Smith take over the RBO’s Paul Hamlyn hall with his specially-designed Christmas tree, which is inspired by the “behind-the-scenes artistry that brings productions to life.”

The collaboration will reflect the proximity of Smith’s first London shop, located on Floral Street in Covent Garden, to the adjacent opera theater.

Sophie Wybrew-Bond, chief commercial officer for the Royal Opera, said the partnership was “a strategic move.”

The Royal Ballet and Opera recently opened its season with a production of “Tosca” and is set to present a new production of “The Makropoulos Case.”
