The 2023 Olivier Awards were held on April 2 at the Royal Albert Hall.

The award for Best New Opera Production went to “Alcina” by Richard Jones at the Royal Opera House.

Reacting to the news, Lisette Oropesa said, “‘ALCINA’ wins the Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production!!!! Congratulations to our fabulous team at the Royal Opera House for a work of love, magic, and joy.”

She added, “I am over the moon to have shared in this production by Richard Jones, that was truly one of the best professional experiences of my life. With amazing colleagues, incredible dancers, brilliant direction, musical leadership, and choreography, we became a closely-knit group of friends, all making Händel’s music shine for the audience. I’m proud to say this one was a real gold nugget.”

Meanwhile, the Outstanding Achievement in Opera award went to William Kentridge for the conception and direction of “Sibyl” at the Barbican Theatre.
