Rowan Pierce & William Thomas Headline Music at Paxton Summer Festival of Chamber Music

Music at Paxton has announced its 2023 Sumer Festival of Chamber Music schedule. The festival runs from July 21- 30, 2023, at Paxton House, Scottish Borders.

“It is always a delight for us when, after spending the winter months planning and preparing the Festival, we can reveal the artists and programs we have lined up for what we are confident will be an exciting summer of great music,” said Artistic Director Angus Smith in the festival program.

First up is the a capella vocal ensemble, Andante Chamber Choir, which will present a blend of classical and popular a cappella choral music, ranging from Purcell and Rutter to Sullivan and Billy Joel.

Rowan Pierce, a rising star in opera and recitals, presents a program spanning 250 years of musical entertainment, featuring Scottish and Irish airs arranged by Haydn and Beethoven and beloved songs by Noel Coward. Christopher Glynn, a Grammy-winning pianist, and Artistic Director of the Ryedale Festival, will accompany Pierce.

Paxton will present a recital featuring William Thomas, a rising star bass, and the renowned Scottish accompanist Malcolm Martineau. Thomas’ achievements include winning the Kathleen Ferrier Award and performing at esteemed venues like the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Teatro alla Scala, Milan. Joined by Martineau, this program features Romantic songs that showcase the expressive depth of William’s bass voice. The program includes Schubert, Wolf, and R. Strauss.
