Rosa Feola, Saimir Pirgu Headline Grand Théâtres de la Ville de Luxeumbourg’s 2020-21 Season

The Grand Théâtres de la Ville de Luxeumbourg has announced its 2020-21 season.

The season opens with “Telegrams from The Nose” by William Kentridge, François Sarhan, and Ictus. Georges-Elie Octors leads the musical performance.

Performance Date: Nov. 12, 2020

Gustavo Gimeno conducts “An Evening of Opera” with Rosa Feola, Marianne Crebassa, and Saimir Pirgu.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2020

“Le Ballet Royal de la Nuit” will be presented with Sébastien Daucé conducting and Francesca Lattuada directing.

Performance Dates: Nov. 29 & Dec. 1, 2020

Olga Pudova, Cecilia Molinari, Alasdair Kent, and Armando Noguera star in “Magic Mozart, Un cabaret enchantee.” The evening will feature arias from “The Magic Flute,” “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Don Giovanni,” and “Die Entführung aus dem Serail.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 31, 2020-Jan. 2, 2021

“Paper Music,” a ciné-concert by William Kentridge and Philip Miller will feature films and film fragments for piano and two voices. Soloists include Ann Masina and Joanna Dudley alongside pianist Vincenzo Pasquariello.

Performance Dates: Jan. 13 & 14, 2021

Gluck’s “Orphée et Eurydice” will be conducted by Raphaël Pichon and directed by Aurélien Bory. The production stars Hélène Guilmette and Lea Desandre.

Performance Dates: Feb. 23 & 25, 2021

Lawrence Renes conducts Katie Mitchell’s production of R. Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos.” The production stars Ann Petersen, Roberto Saccà, Olga Pudova, and Elisabeth Jansson.

Performance Dates: April 28 & 30, 2021

Stefan Neubert conducts Dusapin’s “Macbeth Underworld” in a new production by Lorenzo Fioroni. The opera stars Peter Schöne, Dshamilija Kaiser, Markus Jaursch, Marie Smolka, Maria Carla Pino Cury, Valda Wilson, Carmen Seibel, and Algirdas Drevinskas.

Performance Dates: May 12, 2021

William Kentridge’s “Sibyl” will be performed with music composed and conceived by Nhlanhla Mahlangu and Kyle Shepherd. The production stars Ayanda Nhlangothi, Zandile Hlatshwayo, Siphiwe Nkabinde, and Sbusiso Shozi.

Performance Dates: June 11-13, 2021
