New National Theatre Tokyo has announced its 2024-25 season.

The season opens with Bellini’s “La Sonnambula.” The cast includes Hidekazu Tsumaya, Mutsumi Taniguchi, Rosa Feola, Antonio Siragusa, Hare Ito, and Kei Kondo. Maurizio Benini conducts a production directed by Bárbara Lluch.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-14, 2024

Gezim Myshketa, René Barbera, Yoko Yasui, Hidekazu Tsumaya, Olga Peretyatko, and Junko Saito star in “Guillaume Tell.” Kazushi Ono conducts a production by Yannis Kokkos.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-30, 2024

Tomás Netopil conducts William Kentridge’s production of “Die Zauberflöte.” The cast stars Matheus França, Pavol Breslik, Yoko Yasui, Kanae Kushima, Noriko Tanetani, and Toshiaki Komada.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10 – 15, 2024

Kicking off 2025 is “Der Fliegende Holländer” starring Evgeny Nikitin, Hiroshi Matsui, Elisabet Strid, Jonathan Stoughton, and Mika Kaneko. Marc Albrecht conducts a production directed by Matthias von Stegmann.

Performance Dates: Jan. 19- Feb. 1, 2025

Next comes a double bill of Zemlinsky’s “Eine florentinsche Tragödie” and Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi.” Ryusuke Numajiri conducts a production by Jun Aguni. The Zemlinsky opera stars David Pomeroy, Thomas Johannes Mayer, and Nancy Weissbach. The Puccini comedy will feature Pietro Spagnoli, Rie Miyake, Asako Yoda, and Kota Murakami.

Samantha Hankey, Atalla Ayan, Hare Ito, and Lukasz Golinski star in “Carmen.” Gaetano D’Espinosa conducts and Àlex Ollé directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 26 – March 8, 2025

“Madama Butterfly” stars Atsuko Kobayashi, José Simerilla Romero, Bruno Taddia, and Makiko Yamashita. Enrique Mazzola conducts a production by Tamiya Kuriyama.

Performance Dates: May 14 – 24, 2025

Lawrence Brownlee, Aya Wakizono, Giulio Mastrototaro, Roberto De Candia, Hidekazu Tsumaya, and Etsuko Kanoh star in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.” Corrado Rovaris conducts the production by Josef E. Köpplinger.

Performance Dates: May 25 – June 3, 2025

Kazushi Ono conducts the world premiere of Toshio Hosokawa and Yoko Tawada’s “Natasha.” Christian Räth directs a production that stars Ilse Eerens, Hiroka Yamashita, and Christian Miedl.

Performance Dates: August 11 – 17, 2025
