Roomful of Teeth Announces Concert at Rice University

Roomful of Teeth is set to present a free concert at Rice University’s Morrison Theater inside Brockman Hall for Opera on Feb. 24, 2023. The showcase kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will feature Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti’s “On Stochastic Wave Behavior,” as well as Caroline Shaw’s “The Isle” and her Pulitzer Prize-winning composition “Partita for 8 Voices;” Shaw is one of the members of the group. Per an official press statement, the ensemble will announce the rest of the program onstage.

Roomful of Teeth will also present a seminar to composition students on Feb. 24 and then record some student compositions the following day.

“Roomful of Teeth is going to give a multimedia presentation on extended vocal techniques and then read and record six student compositions created especially for their residency,” said Tony Brandt, a Shepherd School professor of composition and theory, in the press statement. “Our students are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with these world-class musicians who have invigorated new music performance with their vocal virtuosity and adventurous programming.”

Roomful of Teeth is a vocal ensemble comprised of such artists as Eliza Bagg, Cameron Beauchamp, Steven Bradshaw, Dashon Burton, Mingjia Chen, Martha Cluver, Estelí Gomez, Avery Griffin, Virginia Warnken Kelsey, Jodie Landau, Abigail Lennox, Thomas McCargar, Thann Scoggin, Caroline Shaw, and John Taylor Ward.
