Romanian National Opera Names New General Director

Daniel Jinga has been appointed General Manager of the Romanian National Opera.

The conductor will lead the opera house through 2027.

Jinga received a general average of 9.25, after appearing before a commission composed of Diana Baciuna, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Culture, Liliana Staicu, Director of Radio Orchestras and Choirs, and Mihai Cosma, a Musicologist.

The position of General Manager of ONB was blocked for several years by lawsuits in court, after the former General Director of the Bucharest National Opera, Cătălin Ionescu was suspended from office and investigated for embezzlement of public funds in complicity with other defendants, to their companies.

Jinga is well-known in Romania and has worked with such artists as Valentina Naforniță, and Teodor Ilincăi
