By Francisco Salazar

This week three new albums are set for release including a compilation by one of the great Mozart interpreters of our time and a complete opera recording of one of Handel’s first works.

Mozartismo

This new album is a personal retrospective including Rolando Villazón’s favorite tracks, with famous arias from his recordings of Mozart operas “Don Giovanni,” “Cosi fan tutte,” “Die Entfhrung aus dem Serail,” “Le nozze di Figaro,” “La clemenza di Tito” and “Die Zauberflöte.”

Sergei Bortkiewicz Song Cycles

Pianist Bojana Dimković and baritone Krzysztof Szumanski release an album of Sergei Bortkiewicz’s songs. Many of the composer’s works were destroyed during World War II, so this will be an interesting listen for lovers of this rare music.

Almira

CPO is set to release the Boston Early Music Festival’s recording of Handel’s “Almira.” The recording includes Emőke Baráth in the title role, Amanda Forsythe, Colin Balzer, Zachary Wilder, and Christian Immler. Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs lead the recording.
