Mozart Week 2020 will be taking place in Salzburg, from January 23 to February 2, 2020.

The festival will showcase several important works by the famed composer with “Der Messias” coming into spotlight. Robert Wilson will stage the “Messiah,” one of the four Händel oratorios which Mozart subtly reworked. The great composer translated the text into German, re-ordered the work, and also re-wrote all the parts for winds and brass.

“Der Messias” KV 572 will feature soprano Elena Tsallagova, alto Wiebke Lehmkuhl, tenor Richard Croft and bass José Coca Loza with Marc Minkowski conducting Les Musiciens du Louvre Orchestra.

Mozart Week will also present a semistaged performance of “Le Nozze di Figaro” with Rolando Villazón directing. András Schiff will conduct Cappella Andrea Barca from the pianoforte. The cast will include baritones Florian Boesch and Julien van Mellaerts; sopranos Christiane Karg, Regula Mühlemann, Marie McLaughlin, and Julia Lezhneva; mezzo-soprano Angela Brower, tenor Angelo Pollak, and bass Maurizio Muraro.

The rest of the program will include Daniel Barenboim and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra beginning a cycle of Mozart’s last 10 symphonies and final eight piano concerts, spread out over the next four years.

Lahav Shani will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Mozart’s Concert for Flute and Harp.

Mozart Week will close on February 2, with Daniel Harding conducting the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Final concert will feature soprano Louise Alder.
