Rolando Villazón Cancels Wiener Staatsoper Performances

By Francisco Salazar

Rolando Villazón has canceled his upcoming performances of “Don Giovanni” at the Wiener Staatsoper.

The tenor announced that due to his recent gastroenterological surgery, he was forced by doctors to continue to rest. The three performances were slated for March 10, 14, and 17 and he was also expected to perform at Salzburg’s Mozart week.

As a result, Jinxu Xiahou will replace the Mexican tenor in all three performances.

These is Villazón’s latest cancellations as he was forced to withdraw from two recitals in December due to the surgery. Both were rescheduled for a later date.

The tenor is now expected to return to the stage for a concert on March 20, 2019 in Frankfurt, followed by a performance in Cologne and a new production of Rameau’s “Platée,” which he will direct for the Semperoper Dresden.
