Rolando Villazón, Ailyn Pérez, Angel Blue & Susan Graham Lead Santa Fe Opera’s 2023 Season

The Santa Fe Opera has announced its 2023 season and revealed its 19th world premiere slated for 2024.

The company noted that in 2024, the company has commissioned a new opera by two of America’s most exciting talents, composer Gregory Spears and former US Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy K. Smith titled “The Righteous.”

The 2023 Season 

The Santa Fe Opera’s 66th Festival Season opens with Puccini’s “Tosca.” Keith Warner directs the production with John Fiore conducting. Sopranos Angel Blue and Leah Hawkins star in the title role with Joshua Guerrero, Freddie De Tommaso, and Reginald Smith, Jr. rounding out the cast.

Performance Dates: June 30-August 26, 2023

Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” conducts David Alden’s production with Thomas Guggeis conducting. Nicholas Brownlee sings the role of the Dutchman, Elza van den Heever as Senta, Morris Robinson as Daland, and Richard Trey Smagur in the role of Erik.

Performance Dates: July 1-August 25, 2023

Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” will be directed by Netia Jones. Harry Bicket conducts the production starring baritone Huw Montague Rendall and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey. Gihoon Kim, Ain Anger, and Susan Graham round out the cast.

Performance Dates: July 15-August 18, 2023

Sir David Pountney directs “Rusalka” by Dvořák. Ailyn Pérez, Robert Watson, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Michaela Martens, and James Creswell sing with Lidiya Yankovskaya conducting. 

Performance Dates: July 22-August 22, 2023

Nico Muhly’s “Orfeo” makes its world premiere with superstar tenor Rolando Villazón, Lauren Snouffer, Paula Murrihy, James Creswell, and Blake Denson. Harry Bicket conducts the new production by Yuval Sharon.

Performance Dates: July 29-August 24, 2023
