Conductor Roberto Kalb has been named the 2021 Georg Solti Career Assistance Award Winner.

Kalb has led several operatic productions with such companies as Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Kentucky Opera, Tulsa Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, and the International Vocal Arts Institute’s Summer Opera Tel Aviv Program.

Of his production of “Die Zauberflöte” at Opera Maine, Opera News’s Henry Stewart stated in his review that, “Led by Roberto Kalb, who stepped in on short notice, they infused each beat with well-sensed feeling that poured over into the next, maintaining unflagging momentum from the tight and lively overture, here with a proto-Beethoven quality in the dynamics and attack, to the very end.”

In addition to his work on the operatic stage, Kalb has led such orchestras as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Carlos Chávez in Mexico City, and Orquestra Sinfonica da USP in Sao Paulo Brazil, among others.

The Georg Solti Career Assistance Award is entering its 21st year and is given as a means of assisting young conductors in developing their careers. Conductors must apply to be considered for the accolade.
