Roberto Alagna & Gregory Kunde Replace Aleksandrs Antoneko In Paris ‘Otello’
By Francisco SalazarAleksandrs Antonenko has withdrawn from a revival production of Verdi’s “Otello” at the Opéra de Paris.
The company announced that due to health reasons, the tenor would not be able to perform. As a result, Roberto Alagna and Gregory Kunde will replace the Latvian tenor. Alagna, who recently performed the production will take over the April 4 performance, while Kunde, who is a well-known interpreter, will appear during the April 7 performance.
This is the third production that Antonenko cancels in a row. The tenor recently canceled a highly anticipated revival of “Samson et Dalila” at the Metropolitan Opera with Kunde replacing him. He also canceled a revival of the Met’s Aida in January.
Alagna and Kunde will now perform alongside Hibla Gerzmava, George Gagnidze, and Frédéric Antoun with Bertrand de Billy conducting.
