The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced details for its upcoming production of Verdi’s operatic masterwork “Don Carlo.”

The opera will star Nicole Car in the role of Elisabetta di Valois, Étienne Dupuis as Rodrigo, Marquis di Posa, Alex Esposito as Philippo II, Yulia Matochkina as Eboli, and Robert Watson in the title role. The cast will be rounded out by Gideon Poppe, Albert Pesendorfer, Georgina Melville, Byung Gil Kim, Valeriia Savinskaia, Samueol Park, Simon Pauly, Padraic Rowan, Tyler Zimmerman, and Philipp Jekal.

James Gaffigan conducts a production by Marco Arturo Marelli.

Due to ongoing precautions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, all performances will take place without a choir. As a result, the duration of opera will be shortened by approximately 25 minutes.

“Don Carlo” opens on Dec. 5, 2021, and is set to run until Dec. 18, 2021, for a total of four performances.
