The Adelaide Festival has announced the centerpiece for its 2024 season.

Per an official press release, Robert LePage’s production of Stravinsky’sThe Nightingale” will be the headliner at the festival. It will be presented between March 1 – 6, 2024.

“It is a true joy to deconstruct a work and explore the boundless potential of opera,” said LePage, per In Review. “The Nightingale and Other Fables weaves together the crafts of singing, music, puppetry, dance, acting, mime, architecture, and literature – it has it all and I very much look forward to bringing the work to Australian audiences.”

The opera will star contralto Meredith Arwady as Death, bass Taras Berezhansk, tenors Andrew Goodwin, Owen McCausland, and soprano Yuliia Zasimova.

The production is presented in co-production with Opéra de Lyon, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Canadian Opera Company, and Dutch National Opera.
