Riccardo Muti to Conduct Verdi’s Requiem in Palermo in December

The Teatro Massimo di Palermo is set to present Verdi’s Requiem with Riccardo Muti conducting.

The legendary conductor will lead a cast that includes Joyce El-Khoury, Martina Belli, Saimir Pirgu, and Riccardo Zanellato. The concert will be presented on Dec. 4 and 5, shortly after lockdown measures in Italy expire on Nov. 24.

Muti is set is also set to conduct a concert of works by Dvořák and Schubert at the Teatro Massimo on Nov. 30.

The Teatro Massimo recently closed its theater due to the lockdown imposed by the Italian government. The theater canceled such productions as “Elektra,” and “Romeo e Julieta.” The theater was also forced to cancel the Beethoven Piano Concerto cycle.
